By Fennippee Although this hub is sold under many different product titles, when I bought it, it was specifically called the "molecule" hub; therefore, although what I purchased is identical to this and several other items listed on Amazon, I have placed my review here.
Do you experience epilepsy or migraines? Do you have a hard time with strobe lights or rapidly flashing bulbs? If so, STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THIS HUB. Holy crap....
The packaging for this item shows it lighting up, but nowhere, NOWHERE does it indicate that all four lights are constantly turning on and off, and they rapidly change color from blue to red to green, in no discernible pattern, and there is NO WAY TO MAKE IT STOP. Seriously, as long as this thing is plugged in, it does this absolutely insane flickering-changing thing, and there are no settings to change, no knobs or buttons, and no off switch. Whether or not a port lights up is not affected by whether or not anything is plugged into it. There is no rhyme or reason. It's an instant adverse neurological event in a handy palm-sized package. I plugged mine in and immediately knew that if I looked at it for any longer, I would have to spend my weekend in a very dark, quiet room with lots of Advil and caffeine. No joke.
Now, when it comes to the functionality and usefulness of the item, I have a problem with that, too. It comes with a USB cord built in, so you're stuck with the length of that cord -- which is about a foot. Okay, so, I'm supposed to put this where, under my desk behind my computer? How would that help me to reach or use my USB ports? I mean, in addition to having more available ports, I wanted them on my desk where I could reach them. I would have to buy an extension cable to be able to use this thing. Given the fact that I would be unable to use it without giving myself a migraine, I'm disinclined to want to spend another ten bucks on an extension cable. This thing is not marketed as a "pocket" USB hub, or a netbook hub, or a travel hub, etc. No. It's several inches across and clearly is intended to have somewhat of a novelty factor. So the stupidly short cord is unforgivable.
I tried plugging something into one of the ports on the hub, and my computer recognized it, so that at least worked. But with all the other craptasticness going on with this thing, its mere functionality is not enough to make it acceptable as a product.
